ENV: Manakin Music

In some kind of fortuitous comeuppance, Dr. Richard Prum was at the center of two national bird news stories. One of those, detailed here recently, involved the finding by a researcher from Yale of the mechanism by which Club-winged Manakins "sing" -- they don't, they use a technique similar to orthopterans (grasshoppers and crickets). Anyway, via girlscientist, here is a link to an NPR show in whcih you can hear the birds, here them mixed with music, and hear the explanation.

P.s. the other story? He was one of the Ivory-bill critics.
