ENV: Not-Really-a-Cat-Friday

I spent some time today working in the aviary since the kids are gone for the summer. While there i snapped some pics of some of the critters that survived a summer of too much love. And since i'm prepping this for Not-Really-a-Cat-Friday for The Friday Ark at The Modulator this week i thought i'd feature one of the coolest things here -- an Amboina King Parrot, Alisterus amboinensis amboinensis.

It's limited to Amboina Island in the Banda Sea end of the Philippine Archipelago and is a rarely seen bird i captivity. This one is extremely tame, a very sweet bird, and quiet for a psittacine; and it mixes well in the aviary. It's been my good fortune to be involved with a number of exceptional birds in my time, but this one is a personal favorite. P.s. you'll notice that all the birds pictured here are in molt and not in high plumage. Oh well.
