COM: Blogarithmic #27

Just want to say thanks to all my readers who have donated to the Katrina relief funds. So far you've added $5830 to the kitty -- which is way beyond my expectation of a couple of hudred dollars -- that's why you're my friends. Thanks from the whole of my heart!

Brendan Loy continues his well-placed outrage here.

Here's today's should read. 2nd Lt. Michelle J. d'Entremont is now under Court Martial, and the original copy of this email is gone from its original posting. [Update: A person claiming to be Ms. d'Entremont emailed me begging me to remove this from my archives. The reason, she states, is that her identity was hijacked and this was posted by a "friend" as a joke. I am going to honor her request for now, but i'm checking this out further.]

FEMA has this reassuring rap for children posted at its site. It's called "FEMA Rap for Kidz"! I kid you not. Now children, raise your hands if you can define mitigation? Anyone? Anyone? Bueller? Anyone?

Disaster . . . it can happen anywhere,
But we've got a few tips, so you can be prepared
For floods, tornadoes, or even a 'quake,
You've got to be ready - so your heart don't break.
Disaster prep is your responsibility
And mitigation is important to our agency.

People helping people is what we do
And FEMA is there to help see you through
When disaster strikes, we are at our best
But we're ready all the time, 'cause disasters don't rest
They just can't help it can they? The whole family has silver foot in the mouth syndrome . . .

From Barbara Bush, after visiting refugees at the Astrodome:
"What i'm hearing which is sort of scary is that they all want to stay in texas. Everybody is so overhwlemed by the hospitality. And so many of the people in the arena here, you know, were underprivileged anyway, so this (she chuckles slightly)--this is working very well for them."
Grand Rounds, the medical blogamunity's carnival, is up over at Corpus Callosum . . . and as you might expect, there are several dealing with Katrina. Great reading this week.

Thanks to Pharyngula, Clicked, skippy the bush kangaroo

Sun in the fog on the way to town this a.m.
