ENV: Not Really A Cat Friday

This jewel beetle sp. (Buprestidae) flew into the office this week and i couldn't resist trying to get a pic. It is metallic gold and about a half-inch long, small for this family i think. Mike Quinn, Texas' state invertebrate specialist made a run at IDing it for me, but the specialist he knew said it could not be identified to species by photo. I'm doing some background work to see if i can narrow it down by location and come close to an ID. Meanwhile he did ID it as a member of the genus Dicerca.

Be sure to check out The Friday Ark every week at The Modulator!
